KATS Adopts Complete Streets Policy

Kalamazoo, MI - September 24, 2014.   The Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study (KATS), the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the greater Kalamazoo area, adopted a Complete Streets Policy for the Kalamazoo urbanized area today at their regularly scheduled meeting.Complete Streets is an approach to have “roadways planned, designed, and constructed to provide appropriate access to all legal users in a manner that promotes safe and efficient movement of people and goods whether by car, truck, transit, assistive device, foot, or bicycle.”The Policy looks to incorporate the needs of all legal users in the planning process for roadway, transit, and non-motorized projects when allocating federal transportation funds.The approved Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study Complete Streets Policy may be viewed here.
